The Associated Press ran a helpful article aimed at teaching buyers how to spot counterfeits when purchasing handbags and other goods.
Tips include:
Seams
Counterfeit bags may mimic an overall design, but they almost always have poor stitching. The seams on corners should be neat and align.
Zippers
Luxury is in the details. Most high-end products have custom-designed closures and zippers that may have the brand’s name or logo. If you spot a generic “YY” zipper on a luxury handbag, it may be a counterfeit.

Ever wonder why a luxury bag would come with a fabric swatch or brand tag attached to it? Authentic bags often come with tags and information gently tucked into their interior pockets—with no sign of a “fabric swatch” in sight.
